Waterproof Jackets
Whether walking the dog or on the North York Moors these jackets will keep the rain out on those less than perfect days. The breathable fabrics used allow vapour (sweat to you and me) to pass through and out of the jacket preventing moisture buildup on the inside which could leave you soaking inside your waterproof! Quality construction plus tried and tested design are the main strong points of these jackets which will ensure your comfort all year round.
3-in-1 Jackets
Three in one jackets (also known as Interactive Systems) are truly the year round solution. The shell jacket can be separated from the fleece to allow either to be worn on their own, or they can be connected and used as a single item in wet and freezing conditions. This adaptability and multi functionality means you will be comfortable in any climate
Packaway Jackets
Because of their light weight and minimal packed volume these versatile jackets can be carried in almost any bag (or reasonably sized pocket), including Lumbar Packs, which combine to make them my cycling waterproof of choice. They are also perfect for long days on the hill in summer where it pays to have a bad weather backup, especially in Scotland where you can start the day in sunshine and end up in wind, rain and mist!
Specialist Jackets
These jackets represent the state of the art in waterproof activewear; utilising the best materials available plus a host of features and technical innovations to regulate temperature, manage moisture and keep you dry in the worst conditions mother nature can throw at you. If you are involved in an activity where you work hard in all weathers then these are the jackets for you.
Down Jackets
Gramme for gramme, Down provides more insulation than man made fibres, has greater durability and also breathes more effectively to disperse vapour. The combination of these factors has made down filled jackets the universal choice for use in cold, dry environments to retain body heat. The only down side (no pun intended) is that down loses almost all (90%) of its insulative qualities when it gets wet, but this is usually overcome by the use of a water repellent shell material which should keep moderate levels of moisture from penetrating into the fill.
Look for useful individual features such as zip off sleeves for better temperature management and snow valances to prevent the unpleasant cold shock of snow finding its way into your underpants via the bottom of your jacket!
Body Warmers
Sometimes you want extra insulation but need freedom of movement, and since the majority of your body mass and therefore heat loss is from your Torso the perfect compromise is the Body Warmer which leaves your arms free but helps to keeps your core temperature steady.
Basic Fleece
Microfibre Pile Fleece is tough, versatile, comfortable and provides remarkable insulation for its weight - once you've used one you'll wonder how you managed without it. There are several weights of fleece material available, each with its ideal use. This section is mainly light and medium weight for general use,for thicker material fleece look in our "Heavyweight" section. If you want a fleece for more strenuous activities or that act as part of an Interactive System look in the "Fleece Jackets" or "Specialist Fleece" sections.
Heavyweight Fleece
These thick heavyweight fleece are designed to keep you warm in very cold conditions while you are less active. Whether relaxing in the tent or bothy at the end of a long satisfying day on the hill, or waiting for a bus in the high street, you will be snug and warm in any weather.
Specialist Fleece
The fleece in this section are mainly mid weights which are the best available for warmth during activity where a heavier version would overheat you. Most act as part of an Interactive system with shell jackets of the same make and many have a windproof membrane incorporated to prevent wind chill when not wearing a jacket,a feature well worth considering. All these fleece also "wick" moisture away from your body, this is an essential property for the effective functioning of breathable waterproofs and one of the main reasons behind the layering concept.
Trousers
For outdoor activities you need trousers that will dry quickly, shield you from the suns U.V. rays, allow freedom of movement, are lightweight, tough and durable.
Fully synthetic or Polycotton fabrics are the best for these properties plus they also tend to have a small packed size, vital for those week long treks. If weight saving and convenience is a priority zip off trousers which convert to shorts in two easy moves are a real boon, flexability and less to carry - perfect!
Packaway Trousers
As with the packaway jackets the light weight and tiny packed size of these trousers make them perfect for summer waterproofs "just in case" or backpacking, where weight is king.
Overtrousers
For long days in terrible weather,or in deep powder snow,a pair of rugged, reliable, waterproof and breathable overtrousers are a must. Look for seemingly minor but vital features such as knee length (at least) leg zips to allow you to put them on over boots (no more wet socks while suiting up), secure drawstring or adjuster at waist to make allowances for extra clothing, snow valances at the ankle can be valuable in powder snow and braces attachment points are useful for extra security if dangerous ground is to be covered (the last thing you want on the crux maneuver of a knife edge ridge are your trousers slipping down to your knees!)
Remember..........
Also, because men and women are differently shaped their clothes should be too (makes sense really), so all of our Outdoor Woman range is specially designed and cut to provide a perfect fit for the female form.
Not forgetting Junior...........
